Parents and teachers are the persons who are closed to the children. They have time to be with them in each day. So they should have important roles to encourage the children to aware themselves when they use the computer. Wikis is a choice that is appropriate during this time because computers and their equipments are not too expensive. hi-speed internet is also widely serviced with reasonable price.
Teachers are able to assign the students to search for knowledge via the Internet. Wikis is a tool for searching for knowledge. The teachers may assign them to do the activities with their parents by presenting knowledge and add the contents on the Wikis. In addition, they can create new contents on Wikis. It is not only to create the studetns' pride when they have roles to create knowledge for the social but also encourage their eagerness of learning through the assignment topic. Furthermore, it can build a good relationship within the family as well as it will encourage the parents to take part in searching for knowledge of their children.
Finally, I hope the negative attitude about computer usage will be cahnged to "The children will use the computer to create knowledge by using the Wikis instead of playing games".
Wikis is very great tool for searching knowledge. Now my grade 3 students learning about vetibrate and invertibrate in their science subject so I Integrated with my computers subject by let them go through Wikis for searhing about animal at least 10 animals and make a report by using Microsoft Word.

Thanks for your sharing .I'm the one who loving to play games (when I was young I played at least 3 hour a day).In my opinion there are many games can increase and develop their thinking skills (such as SIM3),I think adults should control and explain about good and bad point when the children play each games .

ReplyDeleteAs the computer becomes a staple of every household, I figure in time that it will replace books completely. Common sense would tell you that the day of a stack of encyclopedias in your house are becoming obsolete. At this rate why would anyone ever buy hard copy encyclopedias, when via wiki you have virtual encyclopedias that are constantly updating and evolving. I look forward to learning more about the functions of wikis as well as potential advantages and disadvantages that might exist.

ReplyDeleteAt my school there are encychopedias in the libray. I notice that my students are less interested in reading them.They prefer to read via wiki instead because it's more interesting.
