What a Fast Growing Technology!

I have had teaching experience for 28 years. When I began to be a teacher in 1992, there was no technology to support teaching and learning. I learnt pedagogy from university that related to teaching and learning and evaluation and assessment. In addition, I learned how to wrtie lesson plans and  how to create teaching tools as well.

In the past I had to create teaching aids by hand. I had to cut paper, glue, color etc. I liked to create them and was happy to create them. I used to go in the "Teaching Aid Creation" competition and won the contest many times. I also used these teaching aids in my teaching and they made my students understand the content more deeply and could fill the problem gaps. The outcomes of my students from these materials made me proud of myself as a part of the students' success.

At present, everything has changed rapidly because of globalization. Technology has played an important role in education within a short period of time. It's unbelievable, over the period of my life everything has changed a lot. Teacher-made teaching materials have become out of date and replaced by technological tools.

In summary, I would like to say that "teachers of globalization should adapt themselves with the rapidly changing worldPersonally, I have undertaken to adapt myself by using tecnology as a tool to facilitate teaching and learning. Wikis is one of tools that I favour to use it to search for information and I guide my students to use Wikis to search for knowledge as well.

  1. Hi Wilairat:

This is such a wonderful blog posting! 28 years as a teacher, WOW!!!! That is just incredible. I think that your students are so lucky to have a such a talented and experienced teacher working with them. Globalization and the growth in technology is indeed changing the face of education on the K-12 grade levels as well as on the higher educational/university and college level. In this course, IDE 611 alone, I have learned about blogs, wikis, and podcasting which I knew nothing about at the start of the academic semester. Many of the faculty members that I work with in my home department at SU desire to incorporate some of the above technology in their academic courses. Currently, I am forwarding a lot of the resources that I obtain in IDE 611 to them. Like you, many of the traditional academic professors at SU are trying to adapt to a rapidly changing world.

Glad to know more about you. Yes, we as teachers have to keep ourselves up to date. The world is changing and more innovations come to our life. We need to prepare students for the real world both for presence and future. Wiki can be good teacher for students if they learn how to use wisely.

  4. The world of teaching has certainly changed in the last 30 years. The use of paper becomes more obsolete year to year and the use of the computer gradually takes its place. Also, teaching and the way we learn has changed due to all the visual tools and resources that have been introduced. The idea of WIKIS have certaintly taken the place of the encyclopedia, that is just one of many examples of the ever changing world of teaching, learning and technology.

  5. Wilairat,
When I was young,I really like hand-made resources that my teacher created and used in class. I like your resources. The world changed and technology become part of everyday life. In education, we can see many digital recources contest and many teachers create e-learning and encourage collaboration in the classroom with a Wiki!

  6. Miss Wilairat,
I have been working as a teacher for a year. Then came to US to continue my further education. I really admire you for being a teacher for 28 years. I am so sure that you must have a lot of successful students.
When I was in elementary school, there is nothing technology used in classroom. Teachers used chalks all the time. But things changed now. Whenever I come across any question, I use wiki. It helps so much!

  9. I can only imagine what teaching is going to be like 30 years from now. Their may not even be physical schools anymore by then. everything might be distance learning or some variation of it. New technology that we can't even imagine might appear and make everything we think about the future seem like dated flights of fancy.

  12. Thank you everybody to discuss about the role of technology for education. It mkaes me open myself with the changing world. As the teachers the important thing is "how to make our students to be good persons". One thing that I'm worried is "technoloy may make our mind hard like the engine". Sometimes face to face can teach our students about morality more than technology. I think integration is the best way at this time.

Although I'm a teacher from the previous generation but I promise to adapt myself with the cahnging world. This course helps me a lot and I can learn many things from this course. You are a good role model for seeing the importance of technology and try to encourage to teachers to see the important of them as well.
